|Personal History||Tali was born on Andoria where she had to grow up in caves, and because of this she became interested in the planetary science of mineralogy which is a subject of geology specializing in the scientific study of chemistry, crystal structure, and physical (including optical) properties of minerals. She would also learn about the Andorian culture and the history of the Andorian people. Because of the harsh environment she would also learn to use a primitive Andorian weapon called the Chaka. Her studies also taught her about Andoria itself.
Tali decided that she wanted to follow an ancient form of unarmed combat called Alnaav. In order to do so, she first had to become a weapon master with the Chaka. She trained so that she could tap into her shonalnov, translated means “mystic fighting potential”, which would allow her to become a matchless combatant. This is a rare martial art form among the Andorians. It required a level of discipline and dedication that is rare amongst the Andorians. She had to practice a cruel asceticism, drilled for hours on end in the worst conditions with little to eat or drink so she could develop her shonalnov. Once she tapped into her shena, translated “brilliant flash of insight and inspiration”, did she truly begin studying Alnaav.
When she was of age, she applied and was accepted into Starfleet Academy at the Beta Aquilae II location. She found an interest in climbing. She would study the basic courses of the Federation’s history. Her subjects also covered Starfleet regulations. She would also learn to perform minor modifications and “field” repairs on a tactical communications suite. Tali studied how to operate ground vehicles. As part of her strategic operations officer studies, she studied logistics. She learned how to use a phaser energy weapon. One class that she enjoyed was the planetary tactics guerrilla warfare. She would then learn the planetary support tactics for starships. Tali would begin specialized training in intelligence. As part of that training, she learned to speak Romulan. She also would learn to modify her behavior to resist any interrogation techniques used against her. Tali’s cadet cruise would find her being assigned to a Curry-class cruiser for paroling the Romulan Neutral Zone. While aboard, she received a commendation from the government of the planet Draken for her actions in saving one of the cities.
After her cruise, she was promoted to ensign and given a military intelligence assignment. While serving in this post, she would get good with strategic operations concentrating on neutral zone strategies. She also got proficient with using a computer for simulation and modeling. She also learned about espionage and got decent at traffic analysis. She would become friends with lieutenant junior grade officer Tarvi Keskula during her time at this station. In 2389, she would be promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and re-assigned to a Starbase 419 as a signals intelligence officer. She would be trained to monitor near-space and long-range communication signals for both intelligence and counter-intelligence purposes. She would assist with monitoring Station 419’s own comm traffic under circumstances carefully limited by regulations. She would become a specialist in deciphers and translating foreign signals. She would be promoted to Lieutenant in 2393 and re-assigned to Starbase 249 as an intelligence officer where she would be responsible for gathering intelligence, and she would have to read through a database for hours on end, and the cunning to coax information from an unwilling giver. She then must provide this information to the Chief Intelligence Officer as it becomes needed. She would also be assigned as the executive officer of the USS Blackwell which is attached to Starbase 249.
